Portugal nationwide strike hits airlines: Is your Spain flight affected?
Air Europa cancels all flights to Portugal and Iberia reduces routes by up to 75%

The word we all fear around Christmas time: strike. At a time when so many people are travelling home or visiting family, a strike can throw travel plans into chaos. Air passengers heading to Portugal on Thursday December 11, will face major disruptions as unions call a nationwide strike.
Air Europa is cancelling all 16 of its flights to and from Portugal, while Iberia is reducing its routes by up to 75%.
For Air Europa, the cancellations affect flights from Madrid’s Barajas Airport. The airline confirmed eight flights to Lisbon, four each way, and another eight to Porto. Passengers impacted by these cancellations can change their travel dates for free until December 18, switch routes, request a voucher, or get a full refund.
Iberia is also cutting back. Around 75% of its flights between Porto and Spain will be cancelled, while flights to and from Lisbon will see a 50% reduction.
Why workers in Portugal are striking
The strike, organised by Portugal’s main unions CGTP and UGT, is in protest of the government’s proposed labour reforms. Workers say the changes could affect important rights, including parental leave protections.
If you are travelling around this time make sure to check with your airline before heading to the airport.
