Murcia: The rising star of European tourism
The Region of Murcia is especially popular with travellers from the UK
The Region of Murcia is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain. The latest data from flight and hotel search engine Jetcost reveals that Murcia has emerged as a top holiday hotspot, especially among European travellers.
For August 2024, searches for flights to Spain increased by 12%, and hotel searches rose by 14% compared to the previous year. Among European visitors, Murcia has become an increasingly attractive option, capturing the attention of tourists from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Portugal and Italy in particular.
Jetcost’s data shows that Murcia is a top choice for these travellers, ranking within the top 20 most searched destinations by citizens of these countries. This preference highlights the unique appeal of the Region, which offers a blend of rich culture, fascinating history and the renowned Mediterranean climate.
Furthermore, the combination of affordable prices, delicious gastronomy and proximity to stunning beaches has made Murcia a desired destination for tourists looking for an authentic and affordable experience in Spain.
The Region's popularity extends beyond Europe, as it ranks 29th among the most sought-after destinations by Spaniards themselves.
Spaniards have shown a clear preference for national destinations this summer, with 17 of the 30 most searched cities being Spanish. On a global level, Murcia stands out among highly renowned competing destinations such as New York, Paris and Rome.
Ignazio Ciarmoli, Marketing Director at Jetcost, said: “This year, Europeans are more eager to go on holiday than ever before, with record searches exceeding last year’s figures. The Region of Murcia remains one of the world’s great tourist destinations, where the good prices it offers compared to other cities, its cultural wealth, its nearby beaches, its popular customs and festivals, its delicious gastronomy and its good hotels and infrastructure continue to attract a large number of tourists to spend a few days of rest in August 2024.”
