Murcia emerges as Spain's second largest exporter of fruit and veg
More than 6.1 million euros’ worth of fresh produce was shipped from the Region of Murcia between January and May alone
The Region of Murcia is making waves in the fruit and vegetable sector, achieving record-breaking export figures in the first five months of the year. With local companies exporting produce worth a staggering 1,641 million euros, Murcia has solidified its position as the second-largest exporting province in all of Spain.
Marisa López, the Minister for Business, Employment and Social Economy, highlighted the significance of these achievements, attributing them to the tireless efforts of companies in the sector. By prioritising product quality and embracing technological advancements, she said, Murcia’s businesses have strengthened their competitive edge in demanding markets like Asia.
To further support regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the Ministry, through the Institute for Development (Info), has released a financial aid package for businesses who want to participate in Asia Fruit Logistica, the foremost trade fair for industry professionals in Asia, taking place in September.
Last year, regional companies in the sector exported produce worth 15.8 million euros to Asia. With this year's record-breaking performance, the Minister encouraged local SMEs to seize the opportunity presented by the trade fair, stressing that it will “allow us to continue opening up markets, since it is a key showcase for reaching distribution agreements both in China and throughout Asia and Oceania, by facilitating direct contact with importers.”
